A new study by Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) reveals that integrating AI into building operations could significantly reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. AI could cut energy use by 8% by 2050 under a business-as-usual scenario and, when combined with policy measures and low-carbon energy generation, could reduce building carbon emissions by over 90%. The study highlights AI's potential to accelerate the peak of building energy use from 2040 to 2035 and emphasizes the importance of combining AI with strong energy policies to achieve substantial environmental benefits.
