Vornado Realty Trust has become the first major real estate owner, operator, and developer in the U.S. to achieve 100% LEED® certification for its entire 26.1-million-square-foot in-service portfolio. This includes 24.8 million square feet across 25 buildings, all certified LEED Platinum or Gold by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
The milestone underscores Vornado’s decades-long commitment to sustainability through innovative design, construction, retrofitting, and energy-efficient operations. Its efforts include advanced submetering, real-time energy monitoring, and tenant partnerships to reduce consumption.
Vornado's leadership in green building extends beyond certifications. Recent accomplishments include receiving Nareit’s 2024 Sustainability Impact Award for its redevelopment of THE PENN DISTRICT, a 10-million-square-foot campus in Manhattan, which also earned the world’s first ModeScore Platinum rating for sustainability and connectivity.
USGBC and city officials lauded Vornado's achievement, highlighting its role in advancing industry benchmarks and supporting NYC’s climate goals, including compliance with Local Law 97. This accomplishment cements Vornado’s reputation as a sustainability trailblazer in real estate.
