NYC Moves Construction Safety Compliance Into the Digital Age

The New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) is officially making construction safety compliance paperless, transitioning a successful pilot program into permanent policy. General contractors now have the option to switch to digital on-site recordkeeping, a move designed to modernize and streamline compliance processes. This change comes after extensive discussions with industry groups in 2024 about improving safety oversight on worksites. While public agencies often lag behind the private sector in digitization, the DOB is taking a proactive approach to enhance efficiency and reduce reliance on outdated paper records.
