DC01UK has officially been granted planning permission for a new state-of-the-art data centre in Hertsmere, Hertfordshire. This approval follows the company’s proposals submitted to the local council last year and comes just a week after the UK government’s launch of its AI Opportunities Action Plan, which emphasizes the crucial role of new data centres in fueling economic growth and the AI revolution.
The DC01UK data centre, once completed, will cover up to 2 million square feet and will have a significant power capacity, with a 400MVA reservation from the National Grid. The project is estimated to be worth £3.8 billion, with a projected £21.4 million in annual business rates once operational. Additionally, the centre is expected to generate approximately £1.1 billion in gross value added (GVA) annually from indirect contributions, marking a significant investment in both technology infrastructure and the local economy.
