Who is to Blame? The App Maker or Consumer?

One reoccurring theme I've noticed is that there are plenty of promo videos for new CRE iPad apps, but very few actual product demonstrations. For instance, let's take a look of two iPad apps we've already reviewed: COSTARGO and eXplore.
Here is the COSTARGO video:

And here is the video for eXplore:

Both videos show the app in action for less than 5% of the entire video clip, and eXplore only shows screenshots. When I search for a more in-depth demonstration, I haven't been able to find one for either application.

As an example of what I would hope to find, let's look at a demo for an iPad app which serves a more tech-savvy user base; whose users expect to be shown how the app actually works before buying it.

Sure, the demo is simulated and the speed is scrubbed, but it still gives prospective users a good idea of its overall functionality and value proposition.

It is curious to see so many large CRE companies throw $1000s at developing a native iPhone or iPad app, but few take the time or spend the money for a decent video demonstration.

Is this an innocent oversight, or is it simply because the true goal is to simply have an app in Apple's AppStore for caché or marketing purposes?

There is no doubt in my mind that apps like COSTARGO and eXplore do deliver real value to the folks who have adopted it. But, as hot as mobile apps are, why is the adoption curve is still so long for the CRE industry.

Are these two companies, along with 100s of other companies with CRE apps, failing to effectively communicate the value their apps to their target user base? And if they did effectively demonstrate all the things their app can do, would adoption increase?

I guess the whole point of this post is to pose a question:

Who is to Blame? The App Maker or Consumer?

I'd love to hear your thoughts...
