HowLoud: Helping Homeowners Know Just How Loud a Home Is
CREtech Blog
Every once in a while, a new technology pops up that grabs everyone’s attention. This is the case with HowLoud, a unique technology startup that can actually help potential homeowners determine the loudness of any home. For many people interested in buying a home, the priority is finding a place that is peaceful and quiet. With HowLoud, buyers can determine this criterion prior to signing on the dotted line.
HowLoud’s data product is called Soundscore, which is a rating for how quiet or loud an address is. The score is already embedded into dozens of real estate sites and is gaining traction fast. GeoData Plus is the first real estate data company in New York to offer Soundscore to its clients. Other users around the country include ReMax Executive of Charlotte, Better Homes and Gardens Winans of Dallas and Kaykin Sotheby’s of Silicon Valley.
HowLoud identifies how quiet or loud a home is based on environmental noise coming from airports, highways, businesses, and various amenities. Brendan Farrell, the founder of HowLoud, designed and developed HowLoud based on his own house-hunting experience in Los Angeles.
HowLoud’s Soundscore is available on Multi Listing Service public portals, such as REcolorado and Greater Alabama. The service is also available on West Side Rentals, the largest apartment finding service in Southern California.
Farrell says: “Noise affects everyone’s quality of life. There just hasn’t been a resource information available for it. Now there is that resource. Consumers are beginning to expect that it is made convenient or them by being included in listings. And listing sites are happy to have a new insight to offer their users.
