At the heart of London’s ambitious Canada Water redevelopment, a striking red boardwalk is captivating the public and redefining what it means to design for sustainability and community. Stretching 170 meters, this sustainably sourced timber walkway is more than just a pedestrian crossing. Created by architect Asif Khan, it weaves through the wetlands of British Land’s £4 billion, 53-acre project, blending natural habitats with artistic design while nodding to the area’s history as a dock for Canadian red pine imports.
The walkway’s thoughtful design makes it an accessible, public focal point that enriches the visitor experience and embodies the project's vision of sustainable urban development. By prioritizing communal spaces that connect people to nature, Canada Water sets a new standard for integrating purposeful public spaces into large-scale urban developments.
