Shadow Ventures has announced the launch of its second fund, a $34M seed fund aimed at partnering with entrepreneurs to tackle complex technical challenges in global infrastructure. The fund's core thesis is the urgent need to modernize mission-critical infrastructure, such as buildings, housing, civil infrastructure, energy grids, data centers, and supply chains. This modernization effort requires significant funding, surpassing the GDP of a major European country over the next decade, yet startups in this sector currently receive less than 2% of venture capital funding.
Fund II seeks to bridge this funding gap, focusing on startups leveraging advancements in code, robotics, automation, and materials to address infrastructure challenges. The fund will prioritize frontier technologies like AI, machine learning, robotics, 3D printing, materials science, modular building systems, and alternative energy platforms.
KP Reddy, Founder and Managing Partner at Shadow Ventures, highlighted the firm's commitment to supporting startups in the built environment with deep technology commercialization expertise. Shadow Ventures' portfolio includes notable investments in 3D printed housing startup ICON, robotics leaders BotBuilt and Okibo, AI bridge inspection platform AREN, and AI reality capture platform ConstructN.
The fund also benefits from the support of over 60 strategic investors across the global infrastructure value chain, including new strategic LPs such as Builders First Source, Hensel Phelps, and MiTek.
