The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a funding opportunity of up to $530 million in technical assistance grants to support the adoption of model energy codes, zero energy codes, building performance standards, and similar measures. The grants aim to enhance workforce skills in the latest building technologies, focusing on the proper installation and operation of affordable, healthy buildings, and the implementation of energy efficiency projects for building decarbonization. States and localities can utilize the funding for activities such as customized codes and innovative approaches like building performance standards. The initiative is part of broader efforts to modernize the country's building stock, reduce energy costs, and enhance resilience to extreme weather events. The funding opportunity seeks to align with President Biden's Justice40 initiative and supports inclusive workforce training and building decarbonization. Concept papers are due by February 9, 2024, with full applications due by April 30, 2024.
