THE SCOOP
WOW! Real Capital Markets (RCM) is the real deal! It’s one of those companies I didn’t really know well, and I should have. They are doing big business with over 300,000 customers to date who have used the platform to generate over $1.8 trillion in transactions on line. Yes, that’s a TRILLION!!! And according to stats I saw, over 50% of all U.S. commercial assets sold, over $10 million, are brought to market using Real Capital Markets’ online marketplace annually.
And they are not the new kid on the block either having been around since 1999. Headquartered in CA, RCM positions itself as the commercial real estate industry’s first end-to-end business intelligence platform that allows principals to capture, consolidate and organize critical portfolio and capital markets information while streamlining reporting and analysis throughout the investment sale lifecycle. The technology aggregates the disparate data created in today’s CRE environment into a centralized portfolio intelligence hub that provides owners and investors with meaningful real-time insights to better understand and improve portfolio performance, spur demand, optimize profitability and increase liquidity. Some of their clients include CBRE, NGKF, Cushman and Wakefield, JLLand more of the leading firms in the industry.
I had a great conversation with RCM’s CTO, Chris Babcock who heads all product development, strategic planning, and vendor management. He has been with the company for the past ten years and is part of their senior management team. A big push by Chris and his team is their global expansion plans and new "RCM Insights" product which focuses on providing deep analytical insights to their clients. The tool aggregates various sources of disparate data into one centralized portfolio intelligence hub that provides owners and investors with meaningful real-time insights to better understand and improve portfolio performance, spur demand, optimize profitability and increase liquidity.
Prior to joining RCM, Chris held leadership positions with Snap-on, Inc. and Encyclopaedia Britannica where he established a successful track record implementing Agile and Lean Development practices to deliver commercial software applications.
Chris earned his B.S. in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego. Chris is a super nice guy who spoke to me about how much emphasis RCM places on culture within their organization.
Really impressive what Chris and the team at RCM have built from both a company and product perspective. As I have written about extensively in my blog, building a company and multifaceted platform will be the key to success in the CRE tech space and clearly RCM has done that extremely well!
